Testing Instructions

Testing your home for radon or your water for contaminants is quick and easy.

Radon in Air

Water Analysis

IMPORTANT: Take water sample when it can be returned within 24 hours after taking the sample.

  1. Run cold water to be sampled for at least 5 minutes.
  2. Turn off water and remove aerator if present. Disinfect faucet by wiping with bleach or alcohol.
  3. Turn water on slowly and fill both plastic containers without touching the inside of the cover or bottle. Do not fill the neck.
  4. Scre cap on tightly
  5. Fill in the reverse of this sheet. Please print legibly
  6. Keep samples below 50°F (refrigerator temperature) until receipt at labortory.
  7. We recomment running an idle well at least overnight, then stop running the water and rest the well for a few hours. This ensures you are checking the water that will be in use.

Radon in Water

IMPORTANT: Take water sample when it can be mailed immeduately after taking the sample.

  1. Run cold water to be sampled for at least 20 minutes
  2. After running water for 20 minutes, shut off and remove aeraror if faucet has one.
  3. Turn faucet on softly and fill glass vial until it overflows.
  4. Screw cap on tightly.
  5. Make sure there are no air bubbles in the vial by turning it upside down. If air bubbles are present, empty the vial and try again.
  6. Be sure sure to indicate the date and time sample are taken
  7. Place the vial into bubble pack. Insert indie the mailer and seal the box.
  8. Mail the sample as rapidly as you can.

Canisters

  1. All windows and external doors must be kept closed as much as possible twelve hours before and durning the sampling period, except for normal entering and exiting. Fans and ventilation systems that use outside air should not be operated during the smapling period. Do not test during high winds.
  2. Fill in all customer information on the reverse side of thise sheet. Also, record the address of the sampling location, serial number of canister and the location of each canister.
  3. Place canisters two to five feet off the floor side by side, four inches apart, on an object that does not restrict air flow (i.e. stool, table).
  4. Remove the tape from around the canister, place lid under the lower half of the canister. Save the tape by wrapping tape loosely around open canister and lid. Repeat with second canister if it is a two canister kit. Record the start day, date and time on reverse of this sheet.
  5. Do not disturb for two days. After 48 hours of exposure, replace the lid on each canister and reseal it with the same tape. Record stop day, date, and time on the reverse of this sheet.
  6. Place the sealed canister in the box and enclose this sheet. If samles are to be mailed, affix the reply label on the outisde of the box and seal the box with scotch tape. Postage is required. To expedite the results, the test kit can be dropped off at the laboratory. There is a drop box available for the after hours use. New England Radon is not responsible for lost of delayed mail.
  7. Results are confidential and are not given over the phone. Results will be ready one to two business days after receipt at laboratory.

Vials

  5. Place the sealed vials in the box and enclose this sheet. If samles are to be mailed, affix the reply label on the outisde of the box and seal the box with scotch tape. Postage is required. To expedite the results, the test kit can be dropped off at the laboratory. There is a drop box available for the after hours use. New England Radon is not responsible for lost of delayed mail.
